Local Information & Tips
Four Things to Do When You're Not Watching F1
GO DEEPER INTO MOTORSPORT HISTORY
You're already at the track, so don't miss the Silverstone Museum. It's a brilliant, immersive exhibition packed with iconic cars and interactive displays that tell the story of the circuit and British motorsport. It's the perfect way to spend a few hours away from the live-action.
DISCOVER A QUINTESSENTIAL COTSWOLDS VILLAGE
Silverstone sits right on the edge of the stunning Cotswolds. Take a short drive and escape the noise for an afternoon. Explore a picture-perfect village like Bourton-on-the-Water or Stow-on-the-Wold, with their honey-coloured stone cottages, quaint shops, and charming tearooms for a proper cream tea.
STEP BACK INTO BRITAIN'S STATELY PAST
The area around the circuit is rich with history. For a complete change of pace, visit a grand estate like Stowe House, with its magnificent landscaped gardens, or travel a bit further to the awe-inspiring Blenheim Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage site and the birthplace of Winston Churchill.
EXPLORE THE MODERN HUB OF MILTON KEYNES
If you need a break from the countryside, the modern town of Milton Keynes is a short drive away. It offers a huge shopping centre, a fantastic selection of restaurants, and unique attractions like the Xscape building, where you can go indoor skiing or even skydiving!
Weather and Climate
The Grand Prix happens in July, which means you should prepare for classic, unpredictable British summer weather. It could be a glorious, sun-drenched heatwave or a complete washout with torrential rain. The best advice? Prepare for everything! Pack sun cream, a hat, sunglasses, a waterproof jacket, and a pair of wellies or sturdy boots – if it rains, the car parks can get very muddy!
Parking Arrangements
Parking at Silverstone must be booked in advance and spaces fill quickly. Most car parks are on grass fields, so wet weather can make conditions tricky. Shuttle services run from the outer areas, but expect some walking and queues, especially on race day. If you’re staying at a local campsite, many provide their own parking, often saving you the heaviest traffic.
Lights Out at Silverstone! Welcome to the Home of British Motorsport
Prepare for a full-throttle assault on your senses. A trip to the British Grand Prix at Silverstone isn't just a day out; it's a pilgrimage to the very cradle of Formula One. This is where the World Championship began back in 1950, and you can feel that history in every cheer from the crowd and every high-speed corner. From the scream of the engines echoing across the old airfield to the legendary Red Arrows painting the sky red, white, and blue, the atmosphere is simply electric.
Forget a simple race; this is a weekend-long festival of speed, sound, and passion. It's about finding the perfect spot on the grass, feeling the ground shake as 20 of the world's most advanced cars blast past at over 200 mph, and sharing that jaw-dropping moment with hundreds of thousands of fellow fans. Whether you’re a die-hard fanatic or new to the sport, the sheer spectacle of Silverstone in full flight is something you will never, ever forget.
